How does an idea born in a scientific lab become a real medicine that helps patients? Prof. Martin Fusek (IOCB Prague) will tell you all about it. The development of new drugs is based on discoveries from fundamental research – and the journey from a scientific finding to a commercial product is full of challenges and risks.
Development of novel therapeutic agents rely on advances of basic science. There exist different routes how the result of academia research can be transferred to a commercial product. These transfers contain always a large portion of risk and the risk is even elevated if the early development is not handled properly. The basic principles of early development will be described and some examples will be presented.
In the lecture “Drug development and technology transfer” (held in English), you will learn:
- how to approach early-stage drug development,
- what pathways exist for transferring academic research results into practice,
- and, through concrete examples, what determines success or failure.
